Such a great idea for play dates, I roll out the dough on a tray-sized piece of baking paper and they can spread the tomato purée, add the cheese and any extra toppings they want. You then slide the sheet onto the tray and it’s ready to bake. It’s always fun for kids to tuck into something they made themselves. This could also be a great way to introduce some new veggies - cut them up and sprinkle on top i.e. some peppers, mushrooms, chopped spinach.

Ingredients

  • 300 g Plain Flour
  • a tsp Quick Yeast I use the Doves Farm one (small orange packet)
  • a tsp Salt Optional, I like to use a sea-salt or pink salt for the mineral content
  • a tbsp Olive Oil
  • 200 ml Warm Water Not too hot
  • 1/4 cup Tomato Sauce You can use a jar or make your own - I like to add a bit of crushed garlic, and a tsp of honey to mine
  • 1/2 cup Mozarella

Instructions

  • Mix the flour, salt and yeast. Make a well and add the oil and water. Stir together then knead with your hands for a few minutes until a ball of dough.
  • Cover with a tea towel and leave for 3-6 hours.
  • Roll out on floured surface until 1cm thick. I rolled out to one huge rectangle that fit on the whole baking tray and lined with baking paper.
  • Top with tomato purée and then mozzarella.
  • Add your desired toppings.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 220C for 10 mins. You want the cheese to be melted and starting to brown.

Notes

Our toppings vary week to week, but to change it up a bit I suggest that each time we make pizza they try at least one new topping along with another few that they love. i.e. adding tuna. Adding an egg to the top just before it goes in the oven makes a great addition. It cooks on top and is a great extra source of protein.
